We have an 8 & 10 year old and would be directly affected by the removal of these stop signs in regards to slowing traffic (I’m aware this is not their intended purpose) posing a far greater safety risk than what is currently in play. We know that not all observe a complete stop however, removing them in our opinion would be an absolute step backwards in ensuring the safety of our kids and pedestrians alike in the neighborhood.
This Stop was installed in around 1976. It was installed because Surgarhill is a bit of a blind curve at this location. Speed on Sugarhill and drivers making the turn from lower Ferncreek, without stopping, created a hazard. Also, the fire hydrant there was hit 4 times in the 1970's, 3 times it broke and caused substantial flooding. I have had many near misses backing out of my driveway. I rely on this Stop sign for safety. This a dangerous curve. It would be foolish to remove the stop sign.
